Lightbulb Mtp3 Layer Generic Question.

Hi Guys,

Have you come accross a mtp3 implementation that have multiple linkset between two adjacent point codes (say between 1-1-1 and 2-2-2 )in a network.

I have worked a implementation that allow only single linkset between two adjacent point code.

Have anywhere mentioned in mtp3 recommendation that we can't have multiple linkset within two adjacent nodes?

If we allow only single linkset between two adjacent point codes then why it is so.. what is problem with multiple linksets.

thankx

I have never come across more then one linkset between two DPCs on any network entity, I think this limitation is put in place by the standards body

What I have seen is that when 16 links are not sufficient between two entities than another virtual DPC is created in one of the NE and further links are created with the new virtual dpc

Hi,

a linkset is created between 2 adjacent point codes and max number of ss7 links in a linkset is 16. The reason is each link has 4 binary bits representing SLC (Signaling Link Code), so the range is between 0000 - 1111 in binary or 0-15 in decimal.

If 16 links are not enough, then at least another 1 point code must be introduced to create another link set.

Hope it helps

4 bits representation of SLC not seems to be the reason for linkset to have maximum 16 links. If the recommenders decided to have more the 16 links in a linkset, then 4 bit for SLC would not be the restriction.
